WELCOME
We are a political movement, rooted in local neighborhood action to make our voices heard — five minutes at a time.

Are you upset about…
• Mortgaging our future to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy?
• Inflation?
• Failing checks and balances?
• Accelerating climate change?
• Job losses and business failures caused by on again/off again tariffs?
• The millions of people kicked off Medicaid by the Big, Beautiful Bill?
• The way deportations are being handled?
• The deployment of federal troops in our cities?
• Fundamental changes coming from Washington DC?

Make your voice heard
Join us as we Rise Up for Five every day from 6:30p.m.-6:35p.m. local time.
During those five minutes:
Stand outside your home (front yard, balcony, whatever space makes sense).
Take visible, nonviolent action. You might:
hold a sign
wave an American flag
wear red, white or blue
sing
make noise
call/text/email your government officials about an issue (5calls.org is an easy way to make 5 calls in 5 minutes)
talk to a neighbor
stand silently
Not crucial: what nonviolent action you take or whether you sometimes miss a day.
Crucial: that we act visibly and nonviolently for the America we value until our voices are heard.

Testimonials from Participants
I stand outside for five minutes most evenings with my daughter, holding handmade signs. The first few times, I found myself wondering, "Are we really doing anything?" But two separate neighbors reached out to say that our signs made them feel more supported and welcomed in our neighborhood.

About Us—Initiators
-
CFC, Saint Paul, Minnesota
I am a 76-year-old retiree who is concerned about the world we will leave for the next generations. Rolling back clean energy initiatives, eliminating environmental protections, the massive debt that will result from the Big, Beautiful Bill, the lack of access to healthcare, the housing affordability crisis, economic policies that favor the ultrawealthy over the poor and middle class, the deteriorating checks and balances, the increasing incivility and violence of our disagreements, the barriers to the immigration which made our country great… all of these changes will have some impact during my remaining lifetime. But by far the greatest impact will fall increasingly on the generations to come. I joined in starting this movement in the hopes that we can do something to help ensure that future generations will enjoy the security, freedom and economic prosperity with which America has graced me for the seven plus decades of my life.

I am an immigrant who arrived in the United States in 1987 and became a citizen in 2008. I am appalled by the direction that our country is going towards—more an autocracy than a democracy—and I firmly believe that sitting at home saying how awful everything is won’t make a change. Rise Up for Five is a way to DO something. I hope and pray that others will join Rise Up for Five and between us we can effect a change.

My career was devoted to environmental education. I love swimming, biking, and hiking in the air, waters and wonderful preserves of land all of us in America share. I hate someone making money off of what’s OURS and our children’s as our environment is plundered for the profit of a few! THIS WEEK there’s the proposal to repeal the "endangerment findings” which would buck decades of scientific findings and would lead to the widespread deregulation of vehicle and power plant emissions. No wonder fossil fuel producers have never stopped investing, with a belief they will be able to continue. Tomorrow, it will be tons of new threats that keep my head spinning so I will forget about the Epstein files.
I will feel better doing my part for 5 minutes a day. -

Why Rise Up for Five? As the idea for Rise Up for Five was shared with me, it was only natural to join the movement. I am concerned about what is happening and its impact on our democracy, human rights and policy as well as the global impact of the changes and policy shifts. The speed with which changes are being made alarms me. Rise Up for Five provides a way for me to be heard on an ongoing basis.
Other Ways to Take Action
-
Visible action is the most powerful, but if you can’t commit to joining us outside at 6:30, perhaps you can commit to taking action for five minutes each day in another way? Some ideas with websites for other organizations that might be helpful:
Make phone calls or send emails to your representatives for five minutes each day. These resources can help.
• Democracy.io https://democracy.io/#!/ (or similar websites identifying your local and state government officials)
• 5calls.org https://5calls.org/
Write a letter to the editor on an issue of importance to you.
-
Or if a longer, less frequent action better fits your circumstances, commit to taking action for a longer period every week or every month. Below are just some of the many other groups organizing protests and other actions
• Workers over Billionaires https://maydaystrong.org/
• Mobilize https://www.mobilize.us/
• One Million Rising https://www.nokings.org/rise
• We are Sanctuary Communities https://www.wearesanctuarycommunities.com

None of the above fits for you? Here is some advice from another organization on designing and organizing your own action
